Mexican Trafficking Survivor

“She looks straight into my eyes, her voice cracking slightly, as she tells me the number she wants me to remember — 43,200. By her own estimate, 43,200 is the number of times she was raped after falling into the hands of human traffickers.”

Karla Jacinto was a 12-year-old girl from a small city in Mexico, when she met an older man that she believed would save her from an abusive environment at home. Instead, she was thrust into a new reality completely: one of a victim of human trafficking. Karla spent four years enduring the abuses of her trafficker, buyers, and police officials before being rescued.
